Privacy Policy
This policy explains what NCGC collects when you contact us, what we do with it, and how to ask us to delete it. It applies to ncgc.in and to the enquiry forms on it.

What we collect
- What you give us in an enquiry form or email: your name, mobile number, email address, state and district, the stage your matter is at, the FIR number and police station if you provide it, and whatever you tell us about what happened.
- Technical information collected automatically by the platform this site runs on, including your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited. This site is hosted on Blogger, a Google service, and Google collects this in the ordinary course of serving the page.
- Nothing else. We do not ask for your caste, your income, identity document numbers or bank details through this website. If a form on ncgc.in ever asks you for a bank detail, it is not ours.
Why we collect it
- To call you back and route your matter to a volunteer advocate in your district.
- To help you apply to the District Legal Services Authority where that is the right route.
- To keep an anonymised record of case outcomes for research and advocacy.
- To answer correspondence that is not about a case at all.
Who sees it
- The NCGC case desk. A small number of people.
- A panel advocate in your district, where your matter is being routed to one, so that they can contact you. Panel advocates are independent professionals bound by their own duties of confidentiality.
- Service providers who operate the tools we use, principally Google, which hosts this site and any Google Form we use for enquiries, and whose own privacy policy applies to data it holds.
- Nobody else. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with political organisations.
We may disclose information where we are required to by law, or by an order of a court or a competent authority.
Anonymised use in research
We keep a record of matters that end in acquittal, discharge or quashing, and use it in written representations. Before any case is used in this way we remove your name, the complainant's name, the FIR number, the police station, and anything else that would identify a party. We do not publish material that identifies any individual, and we do not publish the identity of any person said to be a victim of an offence.
If you would prefer that your matter not be used even in anonymised form, say so when you write to us, or afterwards at privacy@ncgc.in. It will be honoured and it will not affect the help you receive.
How long we keep it
[EDIT: State a real period and then actually keep to it. A common approach: active case correspondence retained while the matter is live and for [two] years afterwards, then deleted; anonymised research records retained indefinitely because they no longer identify anyone. Pick figures you can honour.]
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, and to delete it. Write to privacy@ncgc.in from the email address you contacted us on, or telephone the helpline. We will respond within [EDIT: state a period, for example thirty days].
These rights are also being given statutory form under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 as its provisions and rules are brought into force. Where that Act applies to us, we will comply with it.
Cookies and analytics
Blogger sets cookies necessary for the site to function, and Google may set cookies for its own purposes as the provider of the platform. [EDIT: If you add Google Analytics, say so here and explain what it is used for. If you add advertising, you must say that too — although an organisation asking people to trust it with criminal case details should think hard before running ads at all.]
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work.
Security, stated honestly
We take reasonable steps to protect what you send us, including limiting who can read enquiries. We are a small organisation using third-party services, and we cannot promise that any transmission over the internet is completely secure.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from a person under eighteen. If a matter concerns a minor, a parent or guardian should contact us.
